Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Primary Education.

Question:

267 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the level of funding provided by his Department for primary education, not including wage costs, in each of the years from 1996 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16075/00]

The estimated non-pay funding provided by my Department for primary education based on the outturn for the years 1996-99 and for the year 2000 based on the 2000 Estimates is as follows:

£m

1996

98.7

1997

104.4

1998

136.8

1999

162.8

2000

216.5

The increased funding evident in these figures clearly demonstrates this Government's commitment to primary education.
