Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Education Centre Network.

Michael Bell

Question:

272 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the need to upgrade the Dundalk education-teacher centre to full-time status; the plans, if any, he has to implement this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16094/00]

The national network of education centres comprises 20 full-time and ten part-time centres. There are no plans at present to increase the number of full-time centres.

I am aware, however, that the role played by education centres within the education system has evolved significantly in recent years. In this context, it is proposed to have a formal review of the education centre network carried out in the near future.
