Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Job Vacancies.

David Stanton

Question:

45 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of staff in the respective sections working in the Competition Authority and in the Health and Safety Authority; the vacancies, if any, existing in both authorities; the plans if any he has to increase staff numbers and resources; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15937/00]

There are 24 posts in total in the Competition Authority. Vacancies exist for five professional staff, three economists, two legal advisers and three administrative staff. All these posts are in the process of being filled. Sanction has recently been received for the appointment of an additional two economists and three legal advisers and recruitment for these positions will commence shortly.

Recruitment of staff in the Health and Safety Authority is a matter for the authority. However, I would point out that 25 additional posts were approved for the authority in January 2000.
