Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

John Perry

Question:

85 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim and have her appointed to the clerical positions available in County Sligo and County Leitrim in view of the fact that she has already secured a place; if he will make a favourable decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15877/00]

The candidate in question was assigned to the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development in Dublin as a result of a competition confined to former civil servants, which was held by the Civil Service Commissioners, but declined the offer of appointment. Had she taken up duty in Dublin, the location to which assignments from the competition were intended to be made, she could have applied for eventual transfer, after a minimum of two years, to County Sligo or County Leitrim under the central transfer scheme. It is expected that the Civil Service Commission will, at a later stage, hold an open competition for clerical officer positions, not only in Dublin but also in certain provincial areas. It is not, however, possible to say when such a competition may be held.
