Vol. 520 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Willie Penrose

Question:

111 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if his attention has been drawn to the necessity to increase the complement of staff at his Department's offices at Bellview, Mullingar, County Westmeath; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that applicants for positions such as clerical officer from this area are already on panels established for such vacancies by the Civil Service Commission; the action he will take in this regard with specific reference to the case of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16273/00]

My Department continually reviews staffing levels in all areas of operation in the light of operational needs and overall Government policy on staffing levels.

As regards recruitment procedure and on foot of long standing agreements, clerical vacancies at provincial locations are filled in the first instance by serving clerical staff who have applied for transfer to these locations rather than new entrants.
