Question:

146 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will detail, for each murder or suspected murder committed here for the first five months of 2000, the date and location of each death; and to compare the total number for this period with the corresponding period in each of the past five years. [16818/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of murders reported or known to Garda for the first five months of each year from 1995 to 2000 are as follows:

I must stress that the figures for 1999 and 2000 are provisional, and that offences are liable to be reclassified as the Garda investigations proceed.
Murder details for the first five months of 2000 are as follows. The date of each incident refers to the date that the murder was reported or known to Garda.
