Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - Drugs Refund Scheme.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

148 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to include venom immuno therapy kits in the list of approved medicines under the national drug refund scheme as a matter of urgency. [17154/00]

Since snakes are not indigenous to this country, I am not aware of any circumstances in which venom immuno therapy kits would be required to be prescribed for patients. Should individuals be involved in the keeping of snakes for commercial reasons, they should be aware of the dangers involved and it would be the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the appropriate precautions are taken in the event of a snake bite.
