Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

267 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education and Science when a resource teacher will be provided at St. Mary's national school, Clogheen, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17107/00]

The school referred to by the Deputy has a resource teacher service shared with three other schools, which was sanctioned in December 1998. An application for additional resource support has been received from the school in question. My Department's inspectorate is investigating the need for additional resource support of this school. My officials will be in contact with the school authorities when this investigation is completed.

Austin Currie

Question:

268 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint a second deputy principal to a school (details supplied) in County Dublin where there are already over 1,000 pupils and all projections are for continued growth, in view of the fact the conditions under which management and staff are working are extremely demanding. [17108/00]

A second deputy principal post is allocated on an ex-quota basis to second level schools in the free education scheme with enrolments of 1,000 or more pupils or to designated disadvantaged schools with 900 or more pupils.

The school to which the Deputy refers does not satisfy the requirements for the allocation of a second ex-quota deputy principal post for the 2000-01 school year. This school is not designated disadvantaged and according to my Department's records its enrolment is below the figure of 1,000.
