Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - Nuclear Plants.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

78 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the levels of representation from Ireland attending the OSPAR Commission meetings at Copenhagen from 26-30 June 2000; if, mindful of the favourable comment received by the Danish proposal for OSPAR, the Government will be co-operating with Danish counterparts to bring about an absolute and immediate end to radioactive discharges into the marine environment from various sources, including Sellafield, La Hague and Dounreay. [17506/00]

The OSPAR Commission meeting in Copenhagen is at official level and my Department and the RPII will be represented. The delegation will include the principal officer in the nuclear safety division of my Department and the deputy chief executive of the RPII. I have already answered a priority question today concerning my expectations for the OSPAR meeting and, of course, we will be working very closely with our Danish colleagues and other like-minded delegations to secure a positive outcome from this meeting.
