Vol. 521 No. 5

Written Answers. - Army Ranges.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

83 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Defence if he has satisfied himself with the security arrangements on all Army ranges; the procedures that are in place to locate and decommission undetonated armaments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17495/00]

I am advised by the military authorities that all necessary safety measures are taken to ensure that military training exercises on Army ranges are carried out without risk to civilians or military personnel. The use of all firing ranges is governed by specific military range orders which include all security requirements associated with the use of each range.

Routine procedures exist for the detonation of undetonated ammunition on each occasion when ranges are used. All undetonated munitions, when located, are destroyed.
