Vol. 521 No. 6

Written Answers. - Admission Charges.

Richard Bruton

Question:

106 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give details of the discount off adult charge rates which are made by his Department or agencies under the aegis of his Department to children; the age range which defines children; if he will further give details of the discount off the adult charge rates which are made to students; and the criteria for recognising students. [17817/00]

In general, charges and fees determined by my Department for services it administers directly or for those delivered by semi-State bodies under its aegis do not differentiate between adults and others. The above notwithstanding, the Deputy may wish to be aware that entry to the Custom House Visitor Centre for pre-arranged tours for students is free. Normal charges are £1 per person subject to a maximum of £3 for a family; the taxi fare structure in the public service vehicles covered by Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1995 (SI No. 136 of 1995) includes an extra payment of 40p for extra passengers, excluding infants in arms, beyond one. For the purpose of this extra payment each two children under the age of ten years count as one passenger, three or four as two, and so on; while there are no discounts for driving tests for students free tests are available to those who undergo certain FÁS courses for driving higher category vehicles, trucks and buses.
