Vol. 521 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Richard Bruton

Question:

130 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has assessed the need for a special class for children with autism in the County Meath area; if he has consulted with the autism team for County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17834/00]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

At present there are two special classes for children with autism in County Meath. Both of these classes are attached to Scoil Mhuire primary school, Navan, County Meath.

Officials of my Department are currently investigating the need for the establishment of a third special class for children with autism in County Meath and are in discussions with the autism team in this area.
