Written Answers. - Mortgage Interest Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

90 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will qualify for backdated mortgage relief; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17860/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that PAYE balancing statements, incorporating mortgage interest relief, for the years 1994-95 to 1998-99, inclusive, were issued to the taxpayer on 26 May 2000. Refund cheques totalling £3,210.19 also issued to the taxpayer on that date.

I am further informed that a PAYE balancing statement for the 1999-00 tax year, also incorporating mortgage interest relief, issued to the taxpayer on 20 June 2000. A refund cheque for this year in the amount of £598.42 will issue to the taxpayer within ten days.
