Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Consultancy Contracts.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

94 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the names and number of consultants employed by her or her Department in each of the past three years; the total cost involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18479/00]

The vote for my Department includes an allocation for expenditure on consultancy services under subhead A7. The outturn of expenditure for the past three years was as follows: 1997, £109,000; 1998, £304,000; 1999, £159,000.

Consultancy expenditures can also arise under a number of other subheads, for example, expenditures on information technology can include an element of consultancy while some actions and reviews under Structural Fund operational programmes are tendered for and completed by consultants.

It has not been possible in the limited time available to compile the comprehensive details sought by the Deputy. I will communicate separ ately with the Deputy and forward the information sought immediately upon completion.
