Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers' Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

463 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress in respect of the review of Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1994; if it is expected that the regulations will be relaxed to accommodate disabled drivers who wish to live a full life at work or education; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19778/00]

John McGuinness

Question:

470 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance if the review being undertaken by an interdepartmental group regarding the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1994, and the issue of primary medical certificates is completed; and, if so, the plans he has to issue its findings or establish a new more flexible scheme. [19959/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 463 and 470 together.

The disabled drivers and disabled passengers scheme is under review by an interdepartmental group which is chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. I understand that the review is ongoing.

I further understand that the group met on several occasions over the summer months and that the group also held further listening meetings during the month of September with organisations and individuals who indicated a desire to make oral submissions.
It would be imprudent of me to consider any amendments to the scheme until such time as the review is completed and its content is given due consideration.
