Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Bernard Allen

Question:

556 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received the plan from the Irish sub-committee of the Association of Anaesthetists of Britain in Ireland dealing with the manpower crisis related to anaesthetists in hospitals here; and the plans he has to send a delegation to recruit non-consultant hospital doctors from India and Pakistan. [19730/00]

Discussions have taken place with representatives of the Association of Anaesthetists and the College of Anaesthetists in relation to anaesthetist vacancies and it has been agreed that these parties will be represented on the recruitment delegation to India and Pakistan. In addition, representatives of the Department of Health and Children, the health boards and the Medical Council will also form part of the delegation. It is expected that the delegation will travel to India and Pakistan in mid-October.
