Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

557 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received representations from the Southern Health Board regarding the fact that it accepted that asylum seekers were not being adequately cared for under the GMS; and the steps he has taken to ensure that adequate health care is given to asylum seekers in the Cork area. [19768/00]

I have not received representations from the Southern Health Board that the board accepts that the asylum seekers are not being adequately catered for under the GMS scheme.

The Irish Medical Organisation has, however, raised some issues with the board regarding asylum seekers and the GMS scheme and the board has referred the matter to the Department, where it is under active consideration.
