Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

762 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason for the delay in processing one parent family allowance in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare, in respect of which birth certificates and others were furnished to the social welfare office some eight weeks ago, in view of the fact that the person has had no income since March 2000, other than supplementary welfare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19985/00]

The person concerned was requested on three occasions between 13 July 2000 and 6 September 2000 to supply a P45 statement from her last employer, a statement of mortgage from her local authority and information relating to a bank loan. She was also requested to provide documentary evidence of her efforts to obtain maintenance from her spouse, who is in employment.

As the person concerned has not provided the necessary documentation, her claim for one-parent family payment was disallowed on 29 September 2000. She has been informed in writing of this decision and of her right to appeal to the social welfare appeals office.
