Michael Ring

Question:

822 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the funding that has been put in place for a slipway (details supplied) in County Mayo; and when the work on it will commence. [19359/00]

My Department has received an application from Mayo County Council for assistance with the cost of carrying out various works aimed at improving the quality of access on the Ballycroy side of Inishbiggle. An indicative estimate of £315,000 has been given by the council for these works which include: the construction of a slipway at Doran's Point; the construction of a slipway on Inishbiggle opposite Doran's Point; the protection of the coastline at the proposed slipway location on Inishbiggle; and the repair of haul roads at Doran's Point on completion of all works.

This application is currently being evaluated by my officials in the context of other applications received, the amount of funding available for island development projects and a decision will be made on the application in due course.
