Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

873 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of recommendations regarding grant or refusal of asylum made in each of the past two years by assessors within his Department which were rejected by a supervising higher executive officer; the number of recommendations so approved which were rejected by a deciding officer of assistant principal grade or higher; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19507/00]

The type of statistical information requested by the Deputy is not maintained, as it forms part of the normal deliberative process on each asylum application, and the information could not be extracted without the diversion of a disproportionate amount of staff resources which at this time would not be warranted.
