909 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda personnel recruited in each of the past three years; and the number of gardaí who have retired in each of the past three years. [19961/00]

The total number of Garda personnel recruited and retired in the last three years is as set out hereunder:

1998	550	266
1999	550	241

In 1999, an additional 20 telecommunications technicians were recruited under Regulation 14 of the Admissions and Appointments Regulations, 1988.
