Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

1033 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the school transport system servicing St. Mary's School, Bagenalstown, County Carlow, with a view to extending it to accommodate persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who have two children attending the school and 11 other children who could avail of the service should the route be extended. [19949/00]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has sanctioned a school service for pupils from the areas concerned. Bus Éireann has already been informed of the decision and I understand that the necessary arrangements have now been put in place.

Question:

1034 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have considerations made into reviewing the school bus route serving the convent of Mercy Primary School, Thomastown, County Kilkenny and the Boys National School, Thomastown, County Kilkenny, to accommodate a number of families in Danesrath, Upper and Lower Ballinamona and Thomastown, County Kilkenny, who have no service and are over three miles from each school. [19950/00]

A report on the matter has been requested from Bus Éireann. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as the report has been received and assessed.
