Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John McGuinness

Question:

1038 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 164 of 14 June 2000, his Department's inspectorate has decided if additional special support is warranted in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who attends Ladywell Boys' National School; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19954/00]

My Department's inspectorate has investigated an application for extra support in respect of the pupil in question. The pupil had been in receipt of three hours per week resource teaching support.

Arising from this investigation, the level of resource teacher support provided to this pupil has been increased to five hours per week. In addition, a visiting teacher for the hearing impaired has been appointed to the Kilkenny area with effect from September 2000 and the child in question will have the support of this service.
