Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Nora Owen

Question:

1050 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will make a decision on granting a fifth assistant teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20114/00]

As the Deputy is aware the staffing of primary schools is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on the 30 September of the previous school year. This is in accordance with guidelines agreed between this Department and the education partners.

The enrolment at the school in question has decreased from 159 pupils on 30 September 1998 to 142 pupils on 30 September 1999. This latter enrolment warrants the staffing of a principal and four mainstream class teachers for the 2000/01 school year. The school also has the services of a learning support teacher and a resource teacher.
