Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

1069 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that no replacement escort has yet been found on the school transport service for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will have arrangements made to have a taxi service provided for this person (details supplied) who has missed a considerable amount of time out of school in view of this difficulty. [20385/00]

The school referred to by the Deputy is experiencing considerable difficulties in recruiting a suitable person to act as an escort on the transport service for the pupil referred to by the Deputy.

My Department has recently sanctioned a special taxi service, as an interim measure, to restore transport to the pupil in question. I understand that the school authorities are continuing with their efforts to secure the service of a suitable escort.
