Vol. 523 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

109 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for his oral hearing in view of the fact that his appeal has been ongoing for several months. [20953/00]

The position in this case is as set out in my reply to the Deputy's question on 3 October 2000. The person's appeal has been considered by an appeals officer who has decided that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible.

Under social welfare legislation, decisions in relation to claims and the insurability of employment must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
