Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

123 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will appoint a third consultant in the maternity unit of Tralee General Hospital, County Kerry, to ensure that it remains functional at its present capacity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21258/00]

The appointment of additional staff and the identification of priorities is a matter for the Southern Health Board in the first instance. No proposal has been made to my Department for the appointment of a third consultant. If such a proposal is made I will consider the application in the context of available resources and the priority accorded to it by the board.

Question No. 124 taken with Question No. 111.
