Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

153 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 17 is restored to the Fingal County Council housing list; and if he will also request the council to increase its housing list income limit above the present £15,000 which would permit only a very low mortgage or shared ownership amounts. [21286/00]

The assessment of applicants for local authority housing is a matter for the local authority concerned. I am legally precluded from becoming involved in any individual case.

The adoption of a scheme of letting priorities, including the setting of an upper income limit for eligibility, is a matter for the local authority concerned and the formal adoption of a scheme is reserved to the elected members. I understand that the local authority in question is in the process of reviewing their scheme of letting priorities. Following the completion of this review, if the applicant becomes eligible under the terms of an amended scheme, it will be open to the applicant to reapply and be considered along with other applicants for housing accommodation.
