Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jim Higgins

Question:

154 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application under the small schemes programme from Mayo County Council in respect of a sewerage scheme for Bohola, County Mayo; and if necessary funding will be forthcoming in this regard. [21291/00]

A preliminary report for Bohola sewerage scheme was submitted to my Department in 1994 but has not been approved. The scheme was 18th on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Mayo County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-2002, announced in July. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time. I understand that the council is considering the scheme under the devolved small schemes programme.
