Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Town Manager Appointments.

Michael Ring

Question:

158 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if it is intended to allow for the provision of a new title of town manager in the new local government Bill in view of the fact that no such title currently exists; if he will appoint town managers in urban areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21420/00]

The Local Government Bill, 2000, does not provide for any such titles. In line with current law the Bill provides that the county manager is manager for any town local authorities within the county and may delegate functions in this respect or otherwise. This recognises in a practical way the close interdependence of town and county and the need for the co-ordinated delivery of services.
