Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Offices.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

166 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs his policy in respect of the provision of toilet facilities for clients attending at a local social welfare office and, in particular, at the Finglas office in Dublin 11. [21144/00]

The local social welfare office in Finglas does not currently provide toilet facilities for its clients. The office was opened in 1992 to provide a claims and payments service to unemployed persons in the locality. The service provided to customers is fast and efficient and because of the limited time spent by customers in the local office it was not considered necessary to provide toilet facilities.

The provision of additional services through local offices in the future is being considered in the context of the expanding role of the Department. In that context consideration will be given to the need for additional facilities, including toilets, in the offices.
