Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

260 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position in respect of the acquisition of a site for a primary school at Littlepace, Castaheaney, Dublin 15; if the site has been acquired from the developers; if negotiations are complete; the price agreed for the site; and when an interim board of management and school principal will be appointed as parents in the area are greatly distressed by the continuing absence of a local primary school in an area where some 2,000 homes are now built and occupied and several more thousand homes are currently under construction. [21229/00]

The office of the Chief State Solicitor is currently acting on behalf of my Department in relation to the conveyancing of the site at Littlepace, Castaheaney, Dublin 15. As the conveyancing has not yet been completed, I am not yet in a position to disclose the cost involved. In the meantime, architectural planning for the new school is progressing. It is not possible at this point to say when construction will commence.

It is a matter for the patron of the school to initiate the appointment of a board of management in the lead up to the opening of the school.
