Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

262 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford to be allowed to buy back pension rights for in excess of five years teaching service in the UK in order that these years can be added to an Irish pension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21231/00]

There are no provisions at present under which service, such as that referred to by the Deputy, given outside the State may be reckoned here for pension purposes. The feasibility of transferring pension rights of teachers between this country and the UK is one of the matters currently being considered in the context of North/South co-operation.
