Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Perry

Question:

268 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo and authorise an extension of the bus service in view of the fact that her child has medical problems and has missed numerous days from school; if he will make a favourable decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21306/00]

I am informed that the children in question live 0.8 miles from the current pick-up point. They are, therefore, considered to have a reasonable and adequate standard of service in the context of the general operation of the scheme. In the circumstances it was considered that the additional cost involved in providing a nearer pick-up point could not be justified.

My Department has not received an application for transport on medical grounds for either child. Should such an application be received the matter will be reconsidered as a matter of urgency.
