Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Inclusion Policy.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

16 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the input his Department will have into the selection of the 25 most deprived urban and rural communities and into the administration of targeted investment in this regard. [20461/00]

In accordance with the commitment given in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness, I expect to have recommendations before Government by mid-December regarding the identification of the 25 most deprived urban and rural communities, together with a prioritised list of measures that can be implemented within a three year timeframe under the approach for targeting investment in these areas.

The selection of areas and priority measures will take place in consultation with the social partners and the relevant Departments which have responsibility for social inclusion policy matters, and who will be involved in the administration of the programme.

Departmental input will be by way of the already well-established senior officials group of the Cabinet sub-committee on social inclusion, chaired by the Department of the Taoiseach.
