Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Development Programme.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

18 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the proportion of the £400 million allocated under the local development sub-programmes of the national development plan which has now been drawn down; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21110/00]

Under the social inclusion and child care sub-programme of the regional operational programmes of the national development plan, a sum of £370 million has been allocated to the local development measure for the period 2000-06, to combat social exclusion and drug abuse.

Of this allocation, £12.5 million has been advanced so far this year to Area Development Management Limited to meet expenditure incurred in the local action plans of the partnerships and community groups. ADM has estimated that it will draw down approximately £19.4 million for the year 2000. Under the drugs strategy programme an amount of £5.43 million has been drawn down to date in 2000.

Regarding the new action plans for 2000-06, work is at an advanced stage on the preparation of new plans by the local drugs task forces under the national drugs strategy and also by the local partnerships, both of which form part of the NDP's social inclusion programme.

The total amount drawn down to date under the local development measure represents 5% of the seven year allocation.

Question No. 19 taken with Question No. 13.
