Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Jim Higgins

Question:

20 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason an application by a company (details supplied) for grant assistance under the Sports Capital Programme, 2000, has been turned down; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19810/00]

Following the public advertising of the sports capital programme for 2000, in excess of 1600 applications were received, including an application from the organisation in question. All of the applications were assessed in accordance with the assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme. Following this assessment the organisation in question was unsuccessful and this decision, together with a copy of the assessment conducted on the application, was conveyed to the organisation by letter dated 17 July 2000.

I should advise the Deputy that 69 applications were received from organisations in County Mayo and funding was provided to 16 organisations to the value of £736,000.

Question No. 21 taken with Question No. 15.
