Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Indoor Sports Facilities.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

27 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will have considerations made into the construction of indoor sports facilities on the Norwegian model; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21119/00]

As the Deputy will be aware, under my Department's Sports Capital Programme grants are allocated to assist voluntary and community groups including sports clubs, in certain circumstances schools, colleges and local authorities and third level institutions where it is evident that the proposed facility will contribute to the regional and-or the national sporting infrastructure. Each beneficiary is responsible for the design of the project which requires the approval of our technical advisers prior to commencement of work on the project.

I am aware that a number of project promoters have researched models from Scandinavia to help to identify what best practice could be replicated in their applications for funding.
