Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Regional Fisheries Boards.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

57 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason he has not completed the appointments to the regional fisheries boards and to the management committee of the fisheries co-operative societies in each of the eight regions; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the members of these bodies have been elected since March 2000 and that they are not functional because the necessary appointments have not been made. [21133/00]

The seven regional fisheries boards, which are all fully functional, have been meeting regularly since I made my appointments of board members in June. I have made 54 appointments out of a total membership of 56. The two outstanding appointments will be made shortly.

I am currently considering the candidates which have been nominated by the regional boards for appointment to the management committees of the eight fisheries co-operative societies with a view to finalising appointments as soon as possible.
