Vol. 523 No. 4

Written Answers. - Financial Services.

Denis Naughten

Question:

67 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans she has to make provision for a universal bank to provide financial services through the post offices similar to the project taking place in the UK; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21371/00]

The question of what facilities are included in the range of services provided at post offices is primarily a matter for An Post.

I understand that An Post is involved in discussions with the banking sector with a view to identifying possible new business opportunities for the company. There is, however, no specific proposal for the provision of a universal banking facility through the post office network.
