Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

194 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Finance the timescale for payment of compensation for victims of flooding in County Limerick during the winter of 1999-2000; if money for this purpose has been allocated to the Irish Red Cross Society; and if guidelines have been established to assess applications. [21506/00]

I am pleased to state that £250,000 has been provided under Vote 44 and is available for this scheme, which is to provide financial assistance to certain victims of flooding in Limerick during the winter of 1999-2000 in the area immediately adjacent to the Abbey River. The terms of the scheme have been finalised and sent to the Irish Red Cross Society. The society has been asked to confirm that the terms are sufficient to enable them to proceed with the administration of the scheme and upon receipt of such confirmation arrangements will be made for the immediate transfer of funds to the society so that assessment and allocation of payments of financial assistance can be made as soon as possible.
