Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Jack Wall

Question:

198 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of national lottery funding allocated to schools, both primary and secondary, to permit such schools develop sporting facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21657/00]

Funding for primary and secondary level schools is the responsibility of the Minister for Education and Science.

However, applications to the sports capital programme which is the responsibility of the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation are considered from schools which make joint applications with local sports clubs or community groups for funding towards sports or recreational facilities. A total of seven schools benefited under this scheme in 1999 when £276,000 was funded from the national lottery – this comprises 0.24% of total national lottery funds in that year.
