Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Austin Currie

Question:

224 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress made on the Brittas sewerage scheme, County Dublin, since the report submitted to his Department in late 1998 from South Dublin County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21544/00]

A preliminary report was submitted for this scheme in 1998 but was not approved at the time. Because of the level of competing demand and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis, it was not possible to include all schemes proposed by local authorities in the recently announced Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002. This is the first phase of a rolling three-year programme that will continue up to the end of the current national development plan in 2006. Further schemes will be added to the programme on an annual basis during that period. The Brittas scheme will continue to be considered in that context.

Ulick Burke

Question:

225 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current situation on planning, sanction and approval of the extension to Portumna, County Galway, sewerage scheme to the Woodpark area in County Galway which has been recommended by the local authority; and when funding will be available to allow work to start on this urgently needed extension. [21545/00]

Further information requested from Galway County Council in relation to this proposal is under consideration in my Department and the outcome will be notified to the council as soon as possible.
