Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

257 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 188 of 4 October 2000, the precise plans she has for the restoration of the obelisk at Maynooth, County Kildare; if she has shelved any such plans; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21750/00]

As I have already explained to the Deputy in my responses to earlier questions, it is apparent from a detailed survey that Conolly's Folly does require some restoration. However, the more immediate priority is the restoration programme for Castletown House itself, and the folly will have to wait until a later stage. In the meantime, the condition of the folly will be monitored and the position will be regularly reassessed.
