Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

277 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on whether there is a need for secondary students to have appropriate locker accommodation available in every school for each student; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21251/00]

The decision as to whether lockers should be provided for second level students is a matter for the management authorities of individual second level schools.

However, provision for lockers for students is made by my Department as part of the schedule of accommodation for all new second level schools and as part of any extension of existing second level schools. In all other cases, school management authorities may make application to my Department for the provision of lockers for students. Any application made by a school management authority is treated on its own merits.
