Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Ulick Burke

Question:

288 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in appointing architects in the Department to provide plans for the extension to Kilmadeema national school, Loughrea, County Galway, where overcrowding has caused serious problems in the current school year; and if he will give a date when work can commence on this project. [21538/00]

I can confirm that my Department has received an application from the school in question for grant-aid towards additional accommo dation at the school. The Deputy will appreciate, however, that my Department has a large number of school building projects on hand at present. Within this constraint, I can assure the Deputy that the application for the school in question is being dealt with as quickly as possible.
