Question:

147 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if, in view of the grossly inadequate allocation under the services for the elderly (capital works) programme made to the South Eastern Health Board in general and, in particular, in the County Waterford area, he will immediately sanction a substantially increased allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The level of funding made available for services for older people was determined in accordance with the regionalisation and other principles governing the NDP, the overall resources available for health services and competing demands of other service areas. It is a matter for each health board-ERHA to determine the relative priority of proposed developments in its area.
The national development plan represents almost a trebling of the level of capital investment in the health services over the previous seven year period. It provides for a significant increase in funding of services for older people up to the end of 2006.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

131 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Health and Children the scheme whereby a voluntary health and day care centre for the elderly can get funding to extend its centres in order to facilitate the demands in this regard in County Cavan. [22520/00]

Decisions in relation to capital developments are the responsibility of the health boards-authorities who strategically plan and prioritise developments on the basis of identified needs within their catchment areas. Funding for voluntary organisations is mainly provided through the health boards-authorities. The organisation in County Cavan referred to in the Deputy's question may apply directly to the North Eastern Health Board for funding.
