Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

Question:

180 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of vacancies for each Civil Service grade in his Department; the additional steps he will take to attract and keep staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22614/00]

There are vacancies in my Department at assistant principal level (1), higher executive officer level (1) and clerical officer level (2).

Recruitment at assistant principal and higher executive officer level is through confined competitions organised centrally by the Civil Service Commission and by internal promotion by each Department within a framework agreed at central level.

Recruitment at clerical officer level is carried out centrally through the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission by means of open competition.
My Department is currently in the process of filling existing vacancies in accordance, as appropriate, with these procedures.
