Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

42 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the representations he has had from the South Armagh Farmers and Residents Committee in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17605/00]

I refer the Deputy to my written reply to Deputy Sargent on 17 October. I have received two representations from the South Armagh farmers and residents committee this year, in February and again last month. The group has requested a meeting with me in order to raise its continuing concerns about the lack of progress on normalisation in that area. Unfortunately, my schedule has not allowed a meeting to take place. However, my officials are in close contact with the group and meet with its members from time to time. The Government is very aware of their concerns and of the importance of normalisation generally to the local community in south Armagh and we pursue these matters with the British Government on an ongoing basis.

Question No. 43 taken with Question No. 7.
