Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Overseas Development Aid.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

75 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if Ireland will consider Vietnam as a priority country for aid purposes. [22371/00]

In the context of an expanding aid programme, some consideration has been given to extending the geographical focus of the programme. In this very preliminary examination a number of countries have been looked at, including those in south east Asia. However, further consideration has been postponed pending the completion of the review of the aid programme that the Government has decided to undertake in the context of the commitment to increase the ODA allocation to 0.45% of GNP by 2002 and 0.7% by 2007.

Question No. 76 taken with Question No. 40.
